We usually encourage shying away from packaged frozen meals because of the long list of additives and preservatives. That’s why we were pleasantly surprised to discover this stirfry in the freezer section at TJ’s. Toss the separate seasoning packet (it contains a little dextrose i.e. sugar) and the only ingredients are broccoli, shrimp, sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, and red bell peppers. Perfect: all the things you would throw into a stirfry if you were making it yourself from scratch! For a fast weeknight meal, saute the bag contents in a non-stick pan coated with cooking spray until shrimp are pink and cooked through, and veggies are fork tender. Add your own seasoning such as a tablespoon of soy sauce or coconut aminos, fresh garlic, and a sprinkling of chopped, green onions. The entire bag is only 175 calories with 25g of protein – a great VLCD friendly meal. Serve with a ½ cup portion of your favorite high fiber grain for a complete meal and a delicious, healthy substitute to Chinese takeout.
