A Journey from Overwhelmed to Empowered

Inspiration doesn’t always begin with a number on the scale—it often begins with a quiet decision to take back control. For Katie Faugstad, that decision came a year ago, and in just twelve months, she’s transformed her health, her mindset, and the way she shows up for herself and her family. With an astonishing 92 pounds lost and a life reshaped, her journey is proof that sustainable change is possible—without extremes, without shame, and without giving up the foods you love.

Rediscovering Herself, One Small Step at a Time

Katie’s relationship with her weight began early in life. Despite a lifelong love of desserts and a busy lifestyle that often pushed health to the back burner, she tried countless diets—keto, Whole30, gluten-free, sugar-free, fitness streaks. They all had one thing in common: temporary success followed by regain and discouragement. Then came a pivotal moment.

After being diagnosed with fertility challenges in 2018, Katie felt defeated. “I gave up on becoming skinnier and decided I was just going to be overweight through my pregnancy and motherhood years,” she shared. But that mindset began to shift when she found herself avoiding photos and feeling unable to keep up with her two young daughters. That discomfort sparked something new: a desire to change—not just for her appearance, but for her energy, confidence, and longevity.

Finding Support, Finding Hope

Katie found the support she needed through the Enara Program at the Mankato Clinic. With a dedicated team—including a medical provider, a nutrition specialist, and an exercise coach—she started a structured, compassionate approach to her health. The accountability was key, but what surprised Katie most was how doable the process became.

“I laughed at my initial weight goal—I thought it was impossible,” she said. But her provider believed in her. And now? She’s not only met that goal—she’s surpassed it.

Simple Tools, Lasting Change

Katie’s approach focused on small, sustainable shifts. She followed the Plate Method: half her plate filled with vegetables, a quarter with lean protein, and a quarter with healthy carbs. “I’ve eaten more vegetables this year than in the rest of my life combined!” she joked.

She didn’t eliminate sweets, either—just redefined her relationship with them. “I learned I didn’t need to order the large version of every dessert. A few bites were enough.” That mindfulness extended to portion control and awareness of added sugars—habits that are now second nature.

Making Movement Manageable

Although exercise had always been a part of her life, consistency had been elusive. This time, Katie found a rhythm that worked: 20–30 minute workouts, five to six days a week, with rest days built in. That flexibility gave her room to stay consistent without burning out. “Now, I actually feel stronger and can see defining muscles on myself,” she said with pride.

More importantly, her exercise now supports her daily life. She can run, jump, climb stairs, and play with her kids without pain or fatigue. These are the victories that truly matter.

Real Food. Real Life. Real Joy.

Katie’s transformation is grounded in real food—no shakes, powders, or fads. She continues to enjoy the occasional sweet treat, but now with confidence and balance. “Everything I’ve changed can last a lifetime,” she said. And it’s not just about her body. Her energy has soared. Her confidence is stronger than ever. And she finally loves being in photos again.

Doing It for Herself—and Her Daughters

Katie’s “why” goes beyond the mirror. She’s doing this for her daughters—so she can dance with them, play freely, and be present for all the big and small moments. She’s also modeling what it means to care for your body with love and intention. “I want my daughters to have happy memories playing with me, not of me sitting on the sidelines,” she said.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

Katie’s heart overflows with gratitude—for the Enara team, for her supportive husband who cheered her on and chopped vegetables, and for her daughters who inspired her to keep going. “Your encouragement and support are EXACTLY what I needed,” she wrote to the Enara team. “I could not have done this without you.”

Now, with 92 pounds lost and just 8 to go to reach her next goal, Katie’s story is far from over. But it’s already a powerful testament to what’s possible when you believe in yourself, ask for help, and take that first brave step forward.

Her Advice to Others?

“If I can do this, other people can do it too. You don’t have to give up everything you love. You just need the right support, a plan that fits your life, and the willingness to stick with it. You’ve got this.”

Congratulations, Katie, on this extraordinary transformation. Your strength, honesty, and joy inspire us all.
