Bonny November 2020 Rockstar

Rockstar of the Month: November 2020

Meet Bonny, our November Rockstar! She has lost and kept off over 25% of her weight.

Our November Rockstar has been with Enara for 2.5 years!! She has lost and kept off over 25% of her weight. Her weight loss journey reminds us that getting healthy is not a fad or trend but rather a mindset.

Before Enara

My weight loss story begins after the birth of my firstborn. I failed to lose those extra pregnancy pounds and quickly discovered that I could no longer comfortably engage in the activities I loved. I started dreading the thoughts of going and doing because of how much effort it would take and because I was embarrassed by my limitations. The family loved to go skiing but I couldn’t get excited about it because 1) I’d have to write down how much I weighed on the ski rental card (ugh!), 2) it had become a struggle to simply bend over enough to fasten the ski boots, and 3) horror of all horrors, if I fell I would be flopping around for ages fighting to get back on my feet. I couldn’t keep up. I had to get back to a healthy weight and get my life back.

Over the course of the next few years and another baby, I yo-yo dieted. I successfully lost 40 lbs on the Atkins diet and slowly gained it all back. Then, I dropped about 50 lbs on Weight Watchers, only to slowly gain it back again plus some extra. I ended up tipping the scale at the heaviest I’ve ever been a couple of years ago. I had given up and decided that gaining weight was just part of getting older and genetics. Then, my husband told me that he’d always dreamed of going whitewater rafting, but he was worried about how I might manage. I had to be honest with myself, I didn’t think I could because it would take physical stamina to carry the rafts at certain places along the river over boulders and up hills. I got angry at myself for giving up. I didn’t want to miss out on being a part of this adventure or any other future adventures!

At work, I had noticed a couple of co-workers whose weight seemed to literally melt away over a period of about 3-6 months. It was amazing to see their transformations. I got the courage to ask one of them how he was losing so much weight and he told me about Enara. It sounded good but I couldn’t help thinking, “Oh boy, another diet scheme. No thank you.” Over the next few weeks, I faced my internal doubts and insecurities and decided I could do something about my weight. I looked Enara up on the internet to see what it was all about. It looked legit and I had already seen two success stories, so I took the plunge and called for an appointment.

My Enara Journey

I started the VLCD in June 2018 and by Christmas, I had dropped ~60 lbs. I went into maintenance for ~8 months and gained a little back, so I did a second round of VLCD to bring me closer to my goal weight. I landed ~10 lbs from my goal and have been working to maintain since then. My weight loss has been tremendous, and words cannot describe the joy I feel being able to get back to the activities I love. Maintenance is harder than I thought it would be but my Enara team (Leticia, Dana, Dr. Bailony, and Tony) have my back and continue to support me. Enara does weight loss right. They keep you informed and educated. They are your safety net if you falter.  They monitor and ensure you remain healthy along the journey. And, they stick with you to make sure you don’t yo-yo again. I fear to think where I’d be today had I not made that call to Enara. I have my health back and I feel amazing! And, as soon as feasible, I will be going on that whitewater rafting trip!

I feel like I’ve barely touched the surface of all the positive changes that Enara has enabled and helped sustain in my life. Thank you all for all you do. I am forever grateful!

Bonny lost 25% of her body weight:

Bonny’s Percent Body Fat:

PBF (Percent Body Fat) is the percentage of your body that is made up of fat. Everything else is usually referred to as “lean tissue.” This gives a more accurate representation of health, fitness and leanness.

Bonny reduced her total cholesterol by 35%:

  • Cholesterol is a waxy substance that comes from two sources: your body and food.
  • Excess cholesterol can form plaque between layers of artery walls, making it harder for your heart to circulate blood.
  • There are two types of cholesterol: “good” and “bad.” Too much of one type — or not enough of another — can put you at risk for coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke.

Bonny increased her HDL by 7%:

  • HDL is the good cholesterol.
  • High HDL levels reduce risk for heart disease by helping to protect arteries from the build-up of plaque that can lead to atherosclerosis.
  • HDL less than 40 mg/dL in men and 50 mg/dL in women is considered low.

Bonny’s lowered her LDL by 36%:

  • LDL is the bad cholesterol.
  • It collects in the walls of blood vessels leading to atherosclerosis which put you at greater risk for a heart attack or stroke.
  • The goal for people with one other risk factor for heart disease (e.g. increased BMI, high blood pressure, diabetes, family history) is an LDL level under 100.

Bonny’s reduced her triglycerides by 75%:

  • Fatty foods and carbohydrates that we eat are broken down into globs of fat called triglycerides.
  • High levels of triglycerides can increase your risk for heart disease, stroke, and nerve damage.
  • Excess glucose in the blood can be used to make triglycerides, which is why people with insulin sensitivity, pre-diabetes, or diabetes often also have elevated triglycerides.
